Ship Profile: Lambda-class Shuttle
Using a graphic mod to replace the Y-8, a multi-passenger ship with 5 turrets and a large cargo hold, the Fleet uses Lambda shuttles for various operations throughout the galaxy. Primarily used for role playing or special events involving escorts.
Characteristics
Two vertical wings protruded from the top and bottom of the ship's rear. The ship's design is similar to the Sienar Fleet Systems' Sentinel-class landing craft and the YE-4 Assault Gunship.
The ship now holds 150 items for decoration, but will be able to use collections and veteran rewards to increase that limit.
The Actual Y-8 Mining Ship
The Y-8 Mining Ship is a quest reward for completing the Corellian Engineering Corporation quests on Kashyyyk. The Y-8, a multi-passenger ship with 1 Pilot controlled weapon, 4 turrets and a large cargo hold, is a CEC mining vessel which dominates mining operations throughout the galaxy. The Y-8 is designed as the ultimate in mining technology, equipped with a full array of lasers and tractor beams for mining lucrative asteroid belts. The core of CEC operations near Kashyyyk, the vessels are highly prized and protected.
Ironically, the Y-8 mining ship is widely regarded as a poor choice for mining. Many players equip weapons to its turrets and use it as a Capital Ship. This large and manoeuverable ship can be easily fitted with 5 POB weapons and Ordinance for a devastating POB experience.
Star Wars Lore
Sienar Fleet Systems developed the Lambda-class shuttle, with subcontractor Cygnus Spaceworks developing a heavier, combat-ready version of the craft armed with 10 laser cannons. Though designed primarily for space travel, the shuttle's broad wing surfaces give it stable atmospheric maneuverability. Its large interior hold can carry 20 soldiers, or 80 tons worth of cargo. Since the craft is hyperspace-capable and well-armed, Lambda-class shuttles do not require a military escort, though the increasing threat of Rebel forces meant that these ships rarely traveled alone.
The Emperor's Lambda-class shuttle was heavily modified, though its exact design specifications remain classified. It was rumored that Palpatine's personal craft even carried a prototypical cloaking shield.
